Vienna
Vienna is the capital and a federal state of Austria. The city is completely surrounded by Lower Austria and is home to a number of important international organizations including: OPEC; AIEA and ONU.
Also known as "the Musicians' City", Vienna was host to some of the most famous musicians of the 18th and 19th centuries including; Christoph Willibald Gluck, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, the Strauss, Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt.
The "Ring" that surrounds the historical centre is a street that connects the city and follows the path of the ancient walls. The Gürtel is a second ring that encircles the city. It is Vienna’s busiest street and features an elevated railway system.
The city is crossed on its eastern side by the Danube with a small canal (the Donaukanal) that connects the historical centre. Vienna features an artificial island on the Danube that was created to protect the city from possible floods. The island is a popular park where locals relax and play sport. Every year at the end of June, the 3 day Danube Island Party (Donauinselfest festival) takes place.

Vienna's cuisine:
Vienna's cuisine is a true reflection of the cultures that exist within this cosmopolitan of cities and include: Bohemian, Hungarian, Italian and Jewish influences. On Vienna's menus you can find the Tafelspitz - a delicious piece of beef boiled in broth and usually served with chive sauce, roasted potatoes or apples; The Gulash - a Hungarian speciality made of stewed meat with lard, flour, onions, carrots, potatoes and paprika; The Wiener Schnitzel - a fried breaded veal cutlet ; the Frittatensuppe - an omelette cut into strips and served in a cup of hot broth; The famous Knödel (bread dumplings), the Kaiserschmarren - a sweet omelette chopped and served with fruit jam. Legendary desserts include: the Apfelstrudel and the renowned Sachertorte - a chocolate cake with apricot jam.
